Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the BI 2017 scholarship awards ceremony and reception. It was humbling to be among these 71 exemplary students from 25 different countries and to hear the inspirational words of BI President Inge Jan Henjesand, the department deans and BI alumni as they welcomed us to the fold.
In talking with my classmates, a common theme appeared. Many of us international students would never have been able to attend BI without receiving a scholarship. And many of us never believed that we would receive one. We were all incredibly grateful that BI had recognized our varied talents and abilities and offered BI as a place to continue to grow them. There is an obvious lesson here for applicants: don’t let a lack of financing stand in your way of applying to BI!
BI offers a variety of scholarships to different types of students: Norwegian students, international students, students seeking their BBA (BI’s English language bachelor degree), BBA students interested in shipping management, students that attend a QS World Grad School Fair and all types of MSc students. Funding is generously provided by BI or, in a limited number of cases, by the A. Wilhelmsen Foundation. Students of all nationalities, ages and backgrounds are considered. And, in the name of BI’s commitment to a more global campus, strong international candidates are especially encouraged to apply. Read more about BI’s scholarship opportunities HERE.
Among us recipients, there was a shared sense of gratitude that BI had made our academic journeys possible and a shared sense of responsibility to make the most of our time here at BI. With all the opportunities presented to us as BI students (student clubs, career fairs, jobs, learning Norwegian, athletics, exploring Oslo, weekend trips) it was a good reminder that academic excellence remains central to the BI experience.
From all of us scholarship recipients: Thank you, BI!
And to all new applicants: Don’t be afraid to apply!
