My first 17th of May.

Ja, vi elsker dette landet! Yes, we love this country!

What was a normal day last year turned to be one of the most exciting and lovely experiences in 2017 for me. img_20170517_092007611.jpg

Last Wednesday, 17th of May I was able to celebrate with my Norwegian friends the most important day of the year in Norway. The Constitution Day, celebrating democracy and independence.

We had the traditional champagne breakfast quite early in the morning, with some cold cuts, cheese, bacon and, of course, smoked salmon. We ended it with a delicious Pavlova cake one of my friends baked!

Then we headed to the city center to watch the Barnetoget (which would translate directly to the Children Train, haha), the children parade going around the Norwegian Royal Palace. Everyone had a Norwegian flag in their hands and everyone was friendly to each other, wishing Gratulerer med Dagen, Congratulations on the day!

Almost every woman wore traditional costumes, Bunad. They are hand-made and represent each region in Norway. Beautiful to see.

I can’t wait for next year’s 17th of May now.

Hope to see you there!
